Ciao!
I hope this email finds everyone well. This week in the MTC has been another neat week. We have been working really hard to memorize six tasks in Italiano out of a booklet called Basic Core (tasks like saying a basic prayer and meeting someone) -- Friday we finally finished !!
We were practicing conjugating in class one evening and it was really confusing, a bunch of us missionaries couldn't get the hang of it. So one of the Anziani in my district asked Sorella Ellison (one of my amazing MTC teachers) a question, and I loved her response. He said, " If the Savior can perform miracles, then why doesn't He just help His missionaries miraculously know Italian?" Sorella Ellison said, " If you didn't have to try and struggle through the learning process do you think you would recognize the Savior's hand in helping you accomplish it?"
I know what she is saying is 100% true. The amount of Italian I know in just 8 short days is more than the Spanish I learned in high school for 3 years (which probably also has to do with my effort in Spanish :) - but I can see the Savior's hand every step of the way because I know I couldn't do it on my own.
but, I think that her question in response applies to more than just learning a new language- if we didn't have to work at things and have trials, would we appreciate our Savior as much? I can think of countless experiences in my life, where I felt like I couldn't do something- but as I tried and failed (sometimes multiple times) I gradually got better and saw His hand in my life. & eventually the thing that was so hard for me at the beginning was made possible through Him.
So this week, my goal is to be more aware of His hand in my daily life and to be better at thanking Him for all that He does for me.
Thursday I came up between companion study and decided for lunch that I wanted to make some Pico de Gallo because we had some avocados in the fridge. I had finished chopping everything up and just had the avocado left, in the process of taking the pit out, the tip of the knife slipped off the pit and I cut through the avocado straight down into my hand (right below my fourth finger). It was a pretty deep cut and so we went to the Emergency room. Three stitches later and I didn't even get to taste the Pico !! We had to wait at the ER for 5 hours so I missed both of my classes on Thursday- but my sweet mama waited with me and quizzed me on my Italian flashcards while I was getting stitched up so I didn't have to think about it.
I'm feeling it now, it is so sore haha but on the mend.
I'm hoping to get my reassignment sometime this week! Out of the 7 other missionaries in my district, I'm the only one that hasn't gotten it this week-- and it is driving me crazy! I am so anxious to know !! I know I will love wherever He sends me while we wait for visas :)
I'm ready to get back at it this next week !! Thank you for all your sweet emails and constant love and support. I love you all!
Amore,
Sorella Miller
