Aloha!
For starters, Hawaii is the best!! Gorgeous is an understatement! I live in Waimanalo which backs up to these huge rigid mountains (it used to be a giant volcano on the island of Oahu) . It is so green everywhere and the ocean is breathtaking. BUT, my favorite thing about Hawaii is the people here. They are so genuine and kind and completely selfless. Even when people don't have much, they share what they have ♡ the Hawaiian culture is amazing!
First week out of quarantine! This week felt long but it was a great one! My trainer Sister Peterson, is my absolute favorite! She is literally the best and it makes me so sad that she is leaving in a week! My area/ ward right now has the running record for member lessons taught in a week! Our schedule is crammed so we can see most of the ward this week so I can meet them before she goes. Most of our lessons are on zoom, but the occasional in-person visits are my favorite. On Sunday I was asked to give the prayer at church and the bishop, when he saw my tag, asked me where, in Italy, I was from. That made me so happy. I explained that I was called to serve in Italy, originally, not FROM Italy, Once we got that straightened out :), he asked if I'd pray in Italian rather than English. That was a sweet opportunity for me.
I decided to fully embrace the Hawaiian culture by being adventurous and embracing the Hawaiian food haha. This week I tried sushi for the first time ( and really liked it), smoked "taco" ( octopus), jellyfish salad, and some other foods- I wasn't a fan of the jellyfish but everything else I would eat again :)
Also, this week we did a ton of SERVICE! It was so fun! We organized a food bank in Honolulu, participated in a food drive, and some other projects- it is the best feeling to know that you are making a small difference.
In Hawaii, we are allowed to get up early and go on hikes for exercise in the morning, so sis peterson and did the Pali Puka hike one morning. UNBELIEVABLE!! It was gorgeous. At the top, there is a "puka" (hole) in the rock face from wind erosion, so you can sit in it and see out over all of kaneohe and the ocean ♡ (I'll attach a picture of that) Another day we got to sit on the rocks near tidal pools for comp study one morning, so cool!
This week has been amazing and I am loving being a missionary, but it has also been a real adjustment. I have been much better at turning to the Lord in prayer for that extra strength and comfort when I'm feeling homesick or scared or overwhelmed.
I would encourage you this week to say a prayer in the moment that you need extra support ( it doesn't have to wait for the morning or evening routine prayers) I know that God hears and He answers anywhere, anytime.
As always, thank you for your continued love and support. I love you all & am so blessed to have the best friends and family.
Missionary work is the best work and I'm so grateful to be a part of it !!
Amore,
Sorella Miller
