Some love (and encouragement) from Dad

Dear Emma,

There is something about having a missionary out in the field. So many blessings, and one very apparent blessing is how this scriptures take on new depth and meaning. Not just meaning that may apply to my missionary, but just an overall greater love, gratitude, and understanding of the scriptures.
Come Follow Me tonight was pretty special. I wish your could of heard Graham’s testimony of the strength and example you and Sadie have been and are to him. And then he talked about Miles setting that next example, and how much he will miss him. It was so heartfelt and childlike. The Spirit filled our home and our hearts. Thank you Emma for being willing to sacrifice, and do the hard, for your younger siblings. They have seen how hard this has been for you, and not one of them miss a beat when it comes to wanting to serve a missing when I comes their time to serve. That is something incredibly special. We as parents will be forever grateful for you wonderful older sisters who paved the way for them to follow. We love you!
The scriptures that jumped out at me tonight in our lesson were D&C 122 8-9. The testimony of the Savior that He “descended below” all things, therefore when trials come to us, just “hold on thy way” for the bounds of the power of heaven have already  set. He has power to see you through all things.
Then next section of the Doctrine and Covenants (Sec. 123) is given to the Prophet Joseph Smith also while in Liberty Jail. The saints are being persecuted, driven from their homes, and under unimaginable stress and discouragement. The Lord teaches them this in vs 17, “… let us cheerfully do all things that lie in our power”.
My hope for you Emma in these remaining short months of your mission, to not get overwhelmed or discouraged with what it is not, with what you may feel inadequate in, but to give him your whole heart. To “cheerfully”do all things that lie in your power. And let Him cheerfully do all that lies in His. This is His work, He has asked you to take a part in it, but He has all power to accomplish it. Just be you! I assure you that is plenty! You are such an amazing young woman who I am so so grateful to the be the father of. Your kindness, gentleness, and goodness radiate. Continue to let your light within shine. You may not see the glowing light it is leaving on another’s path, but I promise that it is! Leading another closer to the Savior.

Here is November! Make it count! This time will never come again! Home will always be where you want to be, that feeling will never leave. The sacrifice is to put off that wonderful day for a season longer, and lift where you stand now with your whole might, mind and strength. I promise you He will help you finish strong. I also promise you that these next weeks will be some of the most memorable as you think back on them. We are proud of you!
Love,
Dad
